Lawrence's Sports opened its' doors in the fall of 1975 in what is now a vacant lot behind the Taylor Pro Hardware, most recently the home to Morton's furniture. Jim & Dorothy Lawrence, already the owners of MacMaster Sports in Hagersville decided it was time to open a location in their home town. They stayed at the location until the following year when they bought the other sports store in Caledonia at the time, Caledonia Sporting Goods owned by Eno Mackie. After a year at the location across from Spratt's Foods, the Lawrence's moved their store to a new and present location on the south side of town into the Caledonia Shopping Plaza.

Lawrence's Sports has been recognized as one of southern Ontario's finest new and used skate exchanges. The store has always been aware of the different consumers in the marketplace and thus have offered sporting goods with varying price points for almost 30 years.

Lawrence's Sports is recognized as one the leaders in Basball equipment. This is natural as Jim was a member of the Cleveland Indians organization from 1957-1964. In 1963 Jim was good enough to spend sometime with the Big Club and was seen as the catcher of the future until a career ending shoulder injury forced his earley retirement in 1964. After spending the next few years working for Molsons and the Brewers Retail, Jim decided it was time to open his own business with wife Dorothy who at the time was an RN. Together they took the plunge and today the store is thriving and growing but without losing its personal touch for the consumer who needs service only the Lawrence's can provide.

In the fall of 1990, after graduating from MacMaster University, son Danny came into the store full-time and has helped continue the tradition of great service at affordable pricing. In 1996 Danny went to the Mariposa Figure Skating Club for a course in Professional Figure Skating Sharpening, Mounting and repair taught by the worldly renowned Neil Carpenter. Although Lawrence's Sports had been offering and providing excellent skate sharpening since 1975, now the store was able to offer the sharpening to figure skaters.

Presently the Lawrence family continue to operate the store as though each and every person who walks through their door is as important as the last person who came through the door. The Lawrence's look forward to serving the public for a very long time.
